A crushing sensation broke out across his flesh, synthetic nerves firing on all cylinders until the barometric pressure was accurately calculated and the crushing relieved itself to the gentle fluttering of an air conditioned breeze. His ears activated, and the world was silent, then roaring with hums and whirs and clicks, and then quiet, simple, the undercurrent of computers reduced to white noise as light blinded him through the crack of his eyelids. Everything went much the same as his body became aware of itself, and the process was finished in a matter of seconds that felt like hours. His eyes rolled open and locked on the man standing over him.
